Week 26: Taking It Off

Okay, the title sounds risqué but when I talk about taking it off, I’m talking about pounds.  Now I’m sure most of you know that I don’t look like a whale or anything, but Laura has been on a diet and wanted a little support so she informed her “health coach” (a friend of ours who advises Laura) that I wanted to try the diet.

Since this friend is one of my best friends, Randy Kartchner, I told him, “Sure, sign me up!”

Come to find out that for my height (5’9”) I was considered overweight at 188 lbs.  My ideal weight is supposed to be somewhere around 150 lbs.  I thought that was a bit low so I am shooting for 155 lbs.  That gives me 33 pounds to lose.  And I’m sure my joints will thank me.

I have to admit some of my pants are getting tight and I have a bit of a spare tire and this diet is supposed to help me drop weight without a ton of exercise (though that ALWAYS helps).  The key thing is to burn more calories than you take in.  Sounds easy, but we all know it’s not.

The diet consists of eating 5 pre-packaged “meals” a day and they have a fair variety of stuff to choose from with the cost coming in at about what we normally spend on meals anyway.  Then one meal a day is “lean and green”, meaning you eat a 6oz piece of lean meat with some non-starchy or carb heavy veggies.  You’re even allowed a “snack”.  It all balances out to around 1000 calories a day so you can burn about that much and lose weight.  So we’ll try this little experiment and see how it goes.

These are my “before” photos and in a few weeks I will begin reporting in on my progress.

Look at that belly!!!  Not pretty (and NO I did not puff out my belly as much as possible just for the photo).  I did, however relax my gut instead of holding it in (which I do A LOT so I don’t look too bad around others).

So there’s the ugly truth.  Knowing my metabolism, it probably won’t take long.  Laura’s progress has been slow but she has dropped around 25 lbs and has gone from sizes 14  to a size 8 (she’s even fitting into some size 6 clothes) and still dropping since starting back in April.

So here’s to taking it off!!
